Turning on the cute, aren't you?

So: You think you might enroll Aden in 4H? There's a farmers-in-training group in our town that starts at age 5, but they encourage bringing kids in younger than that. We're thinking about getting M a bunny this year, and of course we're getting more chicks too. Our county fair is actually a Youth Fair run by the 4H groups: it is just great going, knowing everything from the dog agility to the big pigs to the chickens and the baked pies and canned goods and home crafts were all done by kids! Your kids would do great in it, I think, considering how involved their parents are.

Wow! So gorgeous and velvety! Just be careful of electrical cords...bunnies like to chew anything that looks like a vine.

Wish I could pet them!

I bought my oldest girl 2 bunnies for easter last year. Before long, I felt that they were getting too big for their cage so I made this huge cage that sat on the ground. Felt it might be a bit more natural for them and all. Well, it appears to have brought the nature out in them because it wasn't more than an hour past, those things dug clear to China and were out of the cage. After about 5 minutes of looking ridiculous chasing them, I decided to let them stay where they wanted.

They had bunnies then the parents died and now we have two of the baby bunnies, now big, running around. They are the sweetest and most peaceful things. They don't let you pet them, but they are enjoyable to watch.

el and kris-oh yeah, the cute factor had definitely increased in this household!! ;) Wait 'till the baby chicks, ducks and turkeys arrive!! It'll be all cute, all the time! LOL! :)
Yes, we have thought about enrolling in the kids in 4H. I guess what I fear the most is the whole NAIS thing. I've heard about kids being refused at the fair for not having their cow registered. Im a bit nervous about just how far reaching this thing is going to get, and how it's going to affect my kids. But it is something we would like the kids to get into, if they'd like to.

emily-yeah, we've noticed that they like to sample everything!!

kelli-there's a first time for everything!! ;)

kramer-wow!! That's quite a story! I've been thinking about doing the same for our rabbits, so they can have some nice outdoor time. A bit more nervous about that now! Although, our soil is such a rock hard clay mess, they'd probably dig all day and get nowhere! LOL! Seriously though, thanks for the tip. We'll have to keep our eye on them if we do build them a run.

Do you remember the outside pen we had for the rabbits? I made a brick lined hole and den for them and had no problem with them trying to dig out. Also if you train them to their name like any other pet by giving them a reward for coming when called now you will have little difficulty if they do accidently get loose. Do you remember the ones we used to let loose in the back yard? I also made a harness so you kids could walk them around. I also made buried a strip of chicken wire around the pen to keep them from digging out and others from digging in. DoD

Dad-I didn't remember the run until we talked about it on Sat. With all we have to do this spring to get ready for the poulty I'm thinking we won't be building a run for them this year. I was thinking about using the dog's kennel as a movable run. I'm glad I've got you around. I'll probably be picking your brain often when it comes to the rabbits. Well...all the animals actually!!
